Prof. Yannis Missirlis graduated as Chemical Engineer from the NTUA (Greece), received his M.Sc from Syracuse University (USA) and Ph.D. from Rice University (USA) in Biomedical Engineering. He served as an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at McMaster University (Canada) before joining the University of Patras (Greece), as a full Professor, directing the Laboratory of Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering until his retirement. He is currently a SUNUM Affiliated Researcher (Sabancı University Nanotechnology Center, Istanbul), and Collaborator of the LTFN Laboratory at Aristotele University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
He has co-authored a book on Biomaterials,
co-edited 2 books on Protein Adsorption, and on
Platelet Interaction with Biomaterials, has published
over 90 peer-reviewed papers in international journals. He is currently retired – but still active - in the area of cell-material interactions, tissue engineering, biomechanics from nano-to macro level, while trying to reach a higher level of understanding of how nature and society works.
